Direct answer

A Canada study permit from Pakistan needs a designated learning institution (DLI) offer, PAL where required, proof of funds (including the 2026 living-cost figure), biometrics, and a credible study plan. CICC College ID R417543 (Migracon Inc., Mississauga HQ + Islamabad Markaz I-8) reviews files honestly and does not guarantee IRCC outcomes.

Your pathway guide

Updated for the 2026 study-permit cycle. Rules change — always re-check IRCC study permit pages before you file. Migracon never promises approvals.

This is Migracon’s Canada study visa / study permit checklist for Pakistani students and families. Official language is usually study permit; searchers still say “Canada study visa.” We use both so the page matches how families actually search.

Migracon is CICC-licensed (#R417543). Verify us on the CICC register before you share passports or pay fees.

Who this 2026 checklist is for

1/15
  • Students in Pakistan targeting colleges or universities in Canada
  • Parents sponsoring a first year of tuition + living costs
  • Applicants comparing Canada vs Canada study visa with honest timeline talk
  • Anyone rebuilding a file after a previous refusal (tell your counselor early)

If you only need a short program under six months, a study permit may not apply the same way — confirm on IRCC before you spend on deposits.

2026 reality check (read this first)

2/15

Canada’s study-permit system tightened through 2024–2026. Three changes matter most for Pakistan applicants:

  • Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) — most undergraduate / college applicants need a PAL (or the provincial equivalent) tied to their school’s allocation before IRCC will treat the file as complete.
  • Student Direct Stream (SDS) closed — SDS ended 8 November 2024. Pakistan is no longer on a special “fast SDS” lane. Expect the regular study-permit channel and plan biometrics + processing time without SDS marketing myths.
  • Higher proof-of-funds floors — IRCC adjusts the minimum living-cost amount. For applications submitted on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant studying outside Quebec must generally show at least CAD $23,448 for living expenses in addition to first-year tuition and travel. Quebec follows separate CAQ / provincial financial rules.

Numbers and exemptions change. Use this page as a checklist map, then verify the live IRCC tables before you lock bank balances.

Step-by-step Canada study permit path

3/15
  • Profile fit — academics, English, budget, intake month, and whether Canada is the right destination .
  • Program + DLI shortlist — only Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) for study-permit purposes.
  • Offer / letter of acceptance (LOA) — conditional or final offer; understand deposits and deferral rules.
  • PAL / attestation — confirm whether your program needs a PAL and when the school issues it.
  • Funds package — tuition + IRCC living minimum + travel; clean 4–6 month bank trail; sponsor letter if used.
  • SOP / study plan — why this program, why Canada, why now, and how you will return or transition legally later.
  • IRCC account + forms — correct study-permit category, biometrics, medicals if required, fee payment.
  • Biometrics + decision wait — book early in peak intake months; keep passport valid.
  • Port of entry / study permit issuance — arrive with LOA, funds proof, and passport; follow stamp / permit conditions.

Migracon’s job is to keep steps 1–8 coherent so you are not filing with missing PAL, unexplained cash dumps, or a study plan that contradicts your transcripts.

Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) — what Pakistani families must know

4/15

A PAL is not a visa. It is provincial confirmation that your seat counts under that province’s study-permit allocation for the year. Without it (when required), IRCC may return or refuse the application as incomplete.

Typical flow

  • You receive an LOA from the DLI
  • The school requests / issues the PAL through the provincial process
  • You include the PAL with the study-permit package

Common exemptions (confirm live rules)

Graduate programs and some primary/secondary pathways have often been treated differently from college / undergrad PAL rules — do not assume. Ask the admissions office: “Do I need a PAL for this LOA before I file IRCC?”

Migracon tip

Do not pay the rest of your life savings on a deposit until you understand PAL timing + refund policy. A late PAL can push you past intake even with a strong funds file.

Proof of funds for 2026 (outside Quebec)

5/15

IRCC expects you to show you can pay without relying on Canadian work for:

  • First-year tuition (and explain how later years will be funded if the program is longer)
  • Living expenses at the current IRCC minimum for your family size
  • Travel to and from Canada (for new applicants)

Living-cost floor (single applicant, outside Quebec)

  • Applications on/after 1 September 2026: about CAD $23,448 living expenses (tuition and travel extra)
  • Earlier 2025–2026 cycles used lower published floors — if you file before a change date, use the table in force on your submission day

Bring family? IRCC publishes higher amounts for additional members — check the official proof of financial support page.

Evidence officers actually read

  • 4–6 months of bank statements (student and/or sponsor)
  • Tuition payment receipts from the DLI
  • Education loan sanction letters from a recognised bank
  • GIC / Canadian account evidence when you use that product
  • Sponsor letter + employment/business proof + relationship documents
  • Scholarship letters (if tuition-only, still show living funds)

What gets files refused

  • Large unexplained cash deposits weeks before filing
  • Funds that appear borrowed for the screenshot
  • Sponsor stories that do not match tax / business reality
  • Showing only “enough for tuition” while ignoring living + travel
  • Copy-paste SOPs that ignore your real academics

SDS is closed — plan the regular stream

6/15

The Student Direct Stream is not available after 8 November 2024. Marketing that still sells “SDS 20-day visa from Pakistan” is outdated.

What to do instead:

  • Build a complete regular study-permit file
  • Book biometrics early
  • Keep a buffer before your program start date
  • Treat “guaranteed fast SDS” agents as a red flag — then verify CICC licensing

English, SOP, and study-plan quality

7/15

Schools set admission English bars; IRCC looks for a credible study story.

English

Sit the test your shortlist actually accepts. Do not chase a brand name if the university wants another. Retakes are normal — factor them into intake planning.

Statement of purpose

A strong SOP answers:

  • Why this program (not “Canada is beautiful”)
  • Why this school / city
  • How your past academics or work lead here
  • How you will fund studies
  • What you plan after graduation within the rules (PGWP / return / further study — no fake certainty)

Migracon reviews SOPs for consistency with transcripts and funds — we do not sell fiction.

Biometrics, medicals, and timelines

8/15
  • Create / sign in to your IRCC account and follow Pakistan visa-office instructions
  • Biometrics: book as soon as the instruction letter allows — peak seasons fill up
  • Medical exam: only when required for your case
  • Processing: varies by season and completeness; build months of buffer before classes start
  • Passport: renew early if it expires mid-program

PGWP and post-study — honest framing

9/15

Many families choose Canada for post-graduation work options. PGWP eligibility depends on the program and current IRCC rules, which have narrowed for some college fields. Do not pick a program only because an agent said “automatic PR.”

Migracon separates:

  • Study-permit success factors (admission + funds + PAL + SOP)
  • Later work / PR exploration (when your profile is ready — see Express Entry)

Intake calendar for Pakistani applicants

13/15

Peak competition is usually September, with a secondary January wave. Build backwards:

  • English test + retake buffer: 4–8 weeks
  • Applications + offers: 4–12 weeks depending on university
  • Deposit + offer clearance: 2–6 weeks
  • 28-day funds window: calendar it deliberately
  • TB + biometrics + decision buffer: several more weeks

Starting “one month before September” is how files get rushed into refusals. Start earlier even if you only submit the visa later.

Common questions

Clear answers — open a branch below.

FAQ tree
Is a Canada study visa the same as a study permit?

Families usually say “study visa.” IRCC’s main document for long programs is the study permit, often with a visitor visa or eTA to enter. We prepare the study-permit package and explain entry documents for your nationality.

Ask this in your free assessment →
Do I still need a PAL in 2026?

Most college and undergraduate applicants still need a provincial attestation letter (or equivalent) unless an exemption applies. Confirm with your DLI before you file IRCC.

Ask this in your free assessment →
What proof of funds do I need in 2026?

Enough for first-year tuition, IRCC’s living-cost minimum for your family size, and travel. From 1 September 2026, the single-applicant living floor outside Quebec is published at CAD $23,448 (tuition extra). Always re-check IRCC before filing.

Ask this in your free assessment →
Is SDS still open for Pakistan?

No. SDS closed on 8 November 2024. Use the regular study-permit stream and ignore outdated “SDS guaranteed” ads.

Ask this in your free assessment →
Can Migracon guarantee my study permit?

No. No licensed consultant can. We improve completeness, consistency, and honesty of the file.

Ask this in your free assessment →
How long does a Canada study permit take from Pakistan?

It depends on season, biometrics, medicals, and whether the file is complete (including PAL when required). Plan months of buffer — not weeks — before your intake.

Ask this in your free assessment →
Do I need IELTS for a Canada study visa?

Schools set English requirements. IRCC also needs a credible study plan. Many students use IELTS, CELPIP, PTE, or other accepted tests — match the school’s list.

Ask this in your free assessment →
Can my parents visit after I get the study permit?

Often they apply for a Canada visit visa later. That is a separate file with its own ties and funds evidence.

Case-critical · after retainer

Your document checklist comes after retainer

Migracon provides your personalised document checklist after you sign the retainer agreement. That checklist is crucial to the success of your case — incomplete or rushed files are a common reason applications stall or get refused.

We do not publish a one-size-fits-all document dump online. Your official list is pathway-specific (Canada study permit, Canada visit visa, or PR exploration) and issued when engagement starts.
